Bagua

Bagua, or Eight Trigrams, was originally symbols the ancient Chinese used only to keep a record of events. They were later used as symbols for divination, as well as a propitious pattern for warding off the evil spirits. Ancient Chinese philosophers designed the Eight Trigrams and usually used it together with the Tai Chi Diagram, with the symbol “-” denoting yang and the symbol “--” denoting yin.

Designed quite smartly and subtly, the Eight Trigrams is so logically rigorous in its permutation and combination that it couldn’t be changed over thousands of years. Many great discoveries and breakthroughs in modern science, for example, binary system, atomic structure and biological genetic technology, could find their corresponding patterns in the Bagua theory and the Eight Trigrams.
