S-shaped Line

The yin-yang fish are separated by an S-shaped line, a swirly line of dynamic beauty. In the Tai Chi Diagram, one end of each of the black and white areas is big, and the other end small, and the two areas nestle against each other to form a circle, unified and constrained by each other. The S-shaped line is a dynamic phase, implying that the yin-yang change of all things in the universe is of spiral dynamics.

The ancient Chinese split the circle – a simple yet marvelous shape – into two equal parts by using an S-shaped line. But this seemingly simple method shifted abstract Tai Chi to a specific figure and achieved the unity of philosophy and aesthetics. The Tai Chi Diagram, therefore, mirrors great wisdom of the ancient Chinese, and is a perfect combination of connotations and external beauty.
